Practical Approach to Implant Dentistry
Dr. Zev Kaufman will lecture on Practical
Approach to Implant Dentistry on Friday, June
28, and conduct a hands-on workshop on Saturday, June
29, 2002 at the Laguardia Marriott Hotel at the
LaGuardia Airport in East Elmhurst, New York.
"What is an implant and how is it adaptable in the
replacement of our patient’s dentition?" This is the
question that our patients ask us almost on a daily
basis. We as professionals need to know how to discuss
the process intelligently with them. The types of
implants - cement versus screw retained, machined and
custom abutments, advantages and disadvantages of each.
What is the difference in treatment planning when using
multiple or single tooth implants? Most importantly, the
interdisciplinary approach to each individual case needs
to be understood. As implant dentistry is continuously
evolving into a more predictable form of therapy, so do
new and innovative techniques which now allow for better
esthetics and greater patient comfort. This course will
present the most up-to-date information available as it
relates to the following topics:
• When is a cementable or screw-retained restoration
preferable?
• Can we load implants immediately, or earlier?
• Should osseointegrated implants be splinted to natural
teeth?
• How to attain ideal esthetic single tooth
restorations.
• How do implants affect treatment planning for the
advanced perio-prosthetic case?
• Treating the serial extraction case.
• Do we need attached gingiva for long-term implant
survival?
• Is smoking a risk factor for implants?
• How to maintain dental implants for long term success.
• Optional advanced topics and hands-on workshop will
concentrate on intra-oral, as well as the laboratory
steps, stressing communication between dentists and
technicians.
